Thor Statue ImageThor Statue Image $40.00US This 10th Century bronze image of Thor was found in Akureyri, Iceland. It shows him in his characteristic pose grasping his hammer, Mjollnir. Thor was the Norse god of thunder, lightning, rain and agriculture and was the most popular of the gods. Thor's sacred emblem, the hammer, was used to celebrate weddings and funerals and people carried his amulet as a good-luck charm. Thor died by venom from the mouth of Jormungand, the world serpent, at Ragnarók (the doom of the gods). This bronze statue is reproduced in Sweden in cooperation with the Icelandic State Museum. It stands 3-1/4 inches tall and weighs 9 oz.

ST698.JPG (23963 bytes)Resin Thor Statue $110.00US Here we find the fierce image of Thor, Norse god of lightning and the frequent protector of the Gods and humanity. The subject of numerous Sagas and works of Germanic and Norse mythology, he is said to have wrestled old age to a knee and defeated the fabled Jormungandr, a serpent so vast it was said that it could encircle the world and bite its own tail. With such heroic exploits, he has fast become among the most worshipped and revered of Norse deities. Indeed his fabled hammer has become a symbol revered as an icon of Norse and Germanic pagan faiths. This fabled hammer, Mjolnir, is said to hit every target at which it is thrown and magically return to his hand and throw lightning bolts. In this statue we find him poised upon a cloud as though preparing to hurl lightning from the heavens, or perhaps strike out against giants whom he was so frequently said to fight. By his feet are the fabled goats Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjostr, magical creatures that Thor could eat so long as he took care to leave their bones whole. When their remains were wrapped up they were able to return to life to pull his chariot. Richly detailed, even down to the engraving on the magical belt that girds his waist, this is a wonderful piece for all who would celebrate the Norse god. Made of cold cast resin, this weighty piece is hand painted so as to appear bronze, and measures 11 " tall and 6" wide. AZ

SO697.JPG (19526 bytes)Resin Odin Statue $120.00US Sculpted of cold-cast resin and painted in muted tones that give the appearance that he is sculpted of brass, is depicted the ruler of the Norse pantheon, Odin. His very name is related to the word oor, meaning fury and excitation, as well as poetry and mind. forging a complex origin paves the path for his complicated role as chief of the Norse Gods. The lord of wisdom, war, battle, and death he was also known to have held sway over magic, poetry, prophecy, victory, and the hunt; a complex mingling of many of the virtues that the Norse people held sacred. It was he who received the souls of valiant warriors that died in battle and the women he favored become the legendary Valkyries, who strode among the battlefields and brought the valiant dead to the halls of Valhalla, where they would wait, training and feasting. Then, when Ragnorok came, they would take up arms again and fight for Odin in the battle that was foretold to mean his death. Here he is shown sitting regally in his throne set upon Hlidskjalf, a place from which he could perceive everything that happened in the universe. Girded for battle, he seems as though he could be overseeing a council of war, with his expression painted into an image of stern contemplation. Close at hand are his ravens Huginn and Munninn (Names that translate into Thought and Memory), who fly around the earth daily and report the happenings of the world to Odin at night, and the wolves Geri and Freki rest close by his feet, to whom he feeds the food of his table for Odin, in his might, requires nothing but mead. Standing 10" tall and 8 " wide, this statue is perfect for any who revere the Norse pantheons. AZ

SV740.JPG (40941 bytes)Green Sail Viking Ship $85.00US Perfect for those who adore Norse traditions and history, this statue presents a fantastically detailed statue of a Viking longship. These iconic vessels were the means by which the Vikings raided coastal dwellings and established their fearsome reputation that has endured even to this day. Known mostly for the feared scene of a dragon-bowed ship drawn up to the beach with blood-lusting warriors spilling over their sides, these ships were also responsible for the extensive trade routes developed by the Norse peoples that allowed them and their legends to linger so vividly in all of our minds. It was in these ships that they colonized Iceland, Greenland, and even ventured as far west as Newfoundland while branching as far east as the Volga River in Russia and the sprawling city of Constantinople. Here we find every plank detailed down to its grain and the pegs that hold the ship together, accented by rows of brightly colored round shields and swirling patterns that accent the ship`s prow and stern. Not a detail is forgotten, right down to the benches and drum for the rowers and the rudder by the stern. Banked with rows of oars and mantled with a tall mast-set with a sail that seems to be filled by the wind-this statue seems as though it should be rolling upon the waves, filled with the fierce warriors of the Viking traditions. Standing 11" tall and 12" long, this statue is 8" wide from oar tip to oar tip and can be removed from its decorative stand to examine more closely. AZ

SF892.JPG (24689 bytes)Resin Freya Statue $85.00US Standing 10 "tall and 4" in diameter, this enchanting cold-cast resin statue of Freya perfectly captures her varied and wild nature. Cloaked, and girded for war with sword and dagger, and a shield leaning by her side, the pieces of her armor leave little to the imagination of those she gazes upon. Exquisitely detailed, no fold of fabric or armor`s buckle is left out in this delightful piece. AZ
